We invite all MIAD students, faculty and staff to attend Art & Identity, a special program presented by the Racine Art Museum in partnership with The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread and the United Way of Racine County, featuring artists Nicole Acosta and René Amado.
In 2024, the Racine Art Museum was honored to receive the United Way of Racine County Equity Fund grant, which allowed us to highlight the talents of two local Mexican American artists—Nicole Acosta and René Amado. Their work was featured in three impactful exhibitions:
HOOPS – Behind the Aesthetic Lies the Story
Low: René Amado
RAM Showcase: Storytellers – Narrative Photography from Artists of Color
These exhibitions amplified powerful voices and narratives, shedding light on the experiences of marginalized communities while challenging harmful stereotypes and racism.
We invite you to join us for a Community Briefing on Art & Identity: Exploring the Shared Stories of Artists Nicole Acosta and René Amado. This event will provide a creative and cultural exploration of Mexican identity, history, traditions, and contemporary issues through art.
